Computer Accounts for Students, Faculty & Staff
Each Stevens student is automatically assigned two computer accounts for his or her individual academic use during the semester. These accounts are on attila (the SGI server) and the Forum server called "Forum". Attila provides access to email, programming languages, and a variety of other packages, as well as access to the worldwide Internet network. Forum proves access to software intended to support group projects and discussions. Each scheduled undergraduate course will have a separate forum created for it, and the enrolled students in that course will be registered as participants.
Graduate Students
Graduate students' account information (username, password and instructions) may be picked up at the Consultants' Office (see below for location) upon presentation of your Stevens I.D. card. The earlier you register, the sooner in the semester your account will be available. Most accounts are established during the first week of the semester, usually within 24 hours after a student registers for classes. Class accounts created in the Fall will be automatically extended for the Spring semester based on registration data. Students who were registered for classes in the Fall semester and already have their username and password information do not need to come in to the Consultants' Office again unless they have lost their password or need assistance.
Undergraduate Students
Computer accounts for undergraduate students are established in the Fall and will be open through the end of the Spring semester. New transfer students or students who are readmitted in the Spring semester may pick up their account letters from the Consultants' Office. If you are a new or readmitted student and did not receive your account letter by attending an orientation seminar, please stop by the Consultants' Office to obtain your letter. You will need to bring your Stevens ID card with you. If your account was open during the summer and you registered on time for fall classes, your password will remain the same and you will not receive a new password letter.
Faculty and Staff
New faculty or staff members may request accounts on forms that are available in one of several ways: from the departmental secretary at the Information Technology's Main Office, from the Consultants at the Customer Service Desk or you may download the computer account form
. Send the completed forms to the Information Technology's Main Office and a password for attila will be mailed to you.
